Our Story

Not just a nail salon.
A social beauty club.

How it started

It started in 2023, on a first trip to Kampala — and a serious craving to get her nails done. She found a couple of places that could do the limited styles and designs she wanted, but as she kept coming back, as a nail maximalist, the gap became obvious: there was nowhere that brought lashes, makeup, and nails together in one space, with the technology, quality, and — above all — the sanitation standards she was used to.

As a makeup artist and nail designer herself, she wanted more than a service menu. She wanted a space for creative expression, for socializing, and for a level of clean she could stand behind without compromise.

She fell in love with Kampala — the city, the space, the vibe — and wanted in on its growing hospitality scene, with her own touch on it. Somewhere people could get their nails done properly and still pass the time with friends. Somewhere built entirely around the client: how you enter the space, the comfort of the chairs, even the fabric chosen with Kampala’s heat and humidity in mind. Comfort, style, and experience, all curated on purpose.

When she brought the idea to her co-founder, they were immediately sold on creating a space tailored specifically to our demographic — a space for anyone and everyone who wants cleanliness, luxury and experience to be top of mind.

The idea took years to take shape. In Kampala specifically, it’s been about three years in the making — since she decided to live here and set out to build the space she’d want to walk into herself. Somewhere beauty isn’t just another item on the to-do list, but a social setting — a place to get work done if she needed to, or make plans with friends. Not just a nail salon. Not just a bar. A social beauty club.

The concept

We built The Gel Bar to be the place we wanted to go to. With busy schedules and competing priorities, the things that are supposed to make us feel good — nails done, makeup done — can start to feel like a task instead of a treat. I wanted to change that, for myself and for anyone who dreads the appointment even though they love the result.

This is a space people run to, not one they put off. Bring your laptop if you need to — but hopefully you reserve the hour just for yourself. Success looks like wanting to come back next week, or even tomorrow. Like this becoming the place closest to home.

Who it’s for

The Gel Bar is for everyone — men and women. For the women rebranding self-care for themselves, chasing an amazing nail set or the perfect makeup look. For anyone who loves lashes and semi-permanent beauty, from express lashes to a full face for the day.

“I built The Gel Bar to be the place I was looking for and couldn’t find — clean, technically excellent, and social. I wanted a space where beauty didn’t feel like another task on the to-do list, but somewhere you run to. Somewhere you reserve your hour and end up staying for the space itself — the nails, the drink in your hand, the friend beside you. This isn’t just where you get your nails or makeup done. It’s where you come to create, connect, and feel completely taken care of, down to the last detail.”

Founder & Co-Owner, The Gel Bar

“This is exactly what I needed. I’ve never seen anything like this in Kampala, and I’m so glad I get to be one of the first to experience it.”

“I can’t wait for this to launch. I’m serious — I’d catch a flight just to get my nails done here.”

“This is the only place I know in Kampala with an autoclave sterilization machine. You can tell they take sanitation as seriously as they take the artistry.”

“I can’t wait to have somewhere my wife and I can actually indulge in together — not just a salon she goes to and I wait outside.”

“Finally, a place where I can get a proper mani-pedi and a good cocktail at the same time. No more choosing between the two.”

★★★★★

The Gel Bar solves every problem I have ever had with nail salons in Kampala.

It has set a standard for hygiene I have not seen anywhere else in the city. The space is spotless, and the care taken with cleanliness is obvious from the moment you sit down. It is the first salon here where I have not had to think twice about it.

What sets it apart just as much is the intent behind the space. It is designed as somewhere to come, relax and lounge, not a service to squeeze in and rush through. Nobody is hurrying you out of the chair.

Walking in feels like a breath of fresh air in the hustle and bustle of Kampala. I left with beautiful nails and feeling properly rested. Highly recommend.
